Du Quoin Kroger to close its doors

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) - Kroger has announced that the Du Quoin store will close its doors on March 23.

According to Kroger officials, the decision was only made as a last resort, as a number of attempts were made to help the store increase its profits and control expenses.

Officials say the store has been losing about a $500,000 annually for several years and this year's projections were reportedly worse.

According to the company, most of the 60 Du Quoin associates are members of a union.  Depending on their hire date, the company says some employees will have the option to exercise seniority rights in other southern Illinois Kroger stores. Other employees will reportedly receive varying amounts of severance pay.

Kroger says this was a most difficult decision for the company and they apologize for any inconvenience it may cause for customers and associates.
