'American Pickers' coming to southern Illinois

MARION, IL (KFVS) - The Williamson County Tourism Bureau has announced "American Pickers" is coming to Southern Illinois in mid-September.

The Williamson County Tourism Bureau has been asked to help "American Pickers" in finding hidden treasures within the area. They are currently looking for large collections of movie and music memorabilia, sports memorabilia, and items from Illinois history and much more.

The show airs on the HISTORY channel and is produced by Cineflix Productions. The adventures of Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz bring them to small towns across the country in search of weird and wonderful Americana. Mike and Frank bring the past to life and recycle America as they go.

4 So. Ill. students attend 'Youth to Washington' tour

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Four Southern Illinois students represented Egyptian Electric Cooperative in Washington, D.C. during the annual "Youth to Washington" tour June 15-22.

Matt Huff of Coulterville, Nina McLernon of Carbondale, Matthew Rehmer of Lenzburg, and Collin Smith of Pinckneyville were representing the company. The event was sponsored by the electric and telephone cooperatives of Illinois since the late 1950s, is an introduction to our democratic form of government and cooperatives for rural youth.

The students met with Congressman Jerry Costello and were among 75 rural Illinois youth leaders selected for the trip. The Illinois students joined more than 1,500 young leaders from across the country.

Foundation looks for nominations for 2012 Illinoisans of the Day

(KFVS) - The Illinois State Museum Foundation is looking for 10 people to spotlight as Illinoisans of the Day at this year’s State Fair in August.

The Illinoisan of the Day program recognizes citizens who make a difference in their communities while showing Illinois spirit through hard work and a dedication to helping others.

“Nominating an individual is as simple as the click of the mouse or picking up the phone,” said Pam Gray, the foundation’s board chair. “By sending in nominations, you can help give these special people in your community the thanks and appreciation they truly deserve.”

Illinoisan of the Day winners will be invited to receive gifts and honors on stage during their special day at this year’s Illinois State Fair, which takes place August 9-19.

ISP sergeant from Benton promoted to master sergeant

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - Illinois State Police District Thirteen announced Thursday that Ray Minor has been promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant.

According to ISP, Minor was selected for promotion because he has demonstrated exceptional abilities as a police officer, investigator, and administrator.

"I have every confidence that his knowledge, experience and leadership will help District Thirteen provide even better law enforcement services for the visitors and citizens of the State of Illinois," said Captain Thomas Stehley, District 13/22 Commander.
