2nd annual Pocket Full of Love 5K Run/Walk, 1 mile Fun Run Sept. 22 | Community Spirit
DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) - The second annual Pocket Full of Love 5K Run/Walk and 1 mile Fun Run will be Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds Labor Pavilion.
Held by the Elkville Christian Church, the outreach program raised over $7,000 for a family suffering a tragedy that took the life of a young mother.
Registration forms are available online at www.familiesinneed.org, or will also be available the day of the event up to 2:45 p.m. The 5K run fee is $18, 5K competitive walk fee is $15, and the fun run fee is $8. Registration forms and fees may be mailed to Elkville Christian Church, 114 South Second Street, Elkville, Ill.
The first 100 paid competition entries will receive a free t-shirt. (Fun Run is not included).
The “Families in Need” organization seeks to provide funds to local families who face sudden emergencies. Kimberly Buser, the event organizer said, “A family facing a loss from fire, illness, sudden death, or other catastrophe often has no place to turn. Families in Need illustrate our commission in 1 Corinthians 13:13. Three things will last forever—faith, hope and love-and the greatest of these is love.”
There will also be activities for the non-runner and walkers. A silent auction and door prize giveaway will offer everything from cosmetics to a free bounce house rental, bagel packs, coupons to fast food restaurants, pizzas, car care products and a professional photo session.
Admission is free.
