Grandstand lineup for 89th Annual Du Quoin State Fair

DUQUOIN, IL (KFVS) - Fair manager John Rednour, Jr. announced Monday the lineup for the Du Quoin State Fair.

The fair will be from August 26 to Labor Day on September 5.

The lineup includes:

  • Friday, August 26 - Harness racing at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 27 - Harness racing at 12 p.m., Josh Turner featured at 7:30 p.m.

Enter your community in the 29th annual Gov.'s Home Town Awards

PERRY COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Illinois communities of all sizes are encouraged to enter the 29th Annual Governor's Home Town Awards competition.

The GHTA recognizes volunteers whose hard work and dedication greatly improves their communities.

The deadline to submit applications is August 15.

Awards will be given in six project categories based on the six community population divisions.

Applications can be submitted by a variety of community representatives like local governments, schools, community organizations, chamber of commerce, community action agencies, area agencies on aging or local job training organizations.

Volunteer judges will evaluate the applications on need, use of resources and impact.

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The last day for the Pinckneyville Fair is Saturday, June 18.

The fair is located at the edge of Pinckneyville in the fairgrounds. A schedule of events for the last couple of days of the fair include:

Friday, June 17 - Crash 'em Up Day

  • Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 into the Grandstand.

Saturday, June 18 - All Power Day

  • 9 a.m. - "Drive Smart for Your School" fundraiser for Pinckneyville Community High School
  • 10:30 a.m. - Antique Tractor Pulls, free admission
  • 7 p.m. - Illinois Tractor Pull Associtation's Tractor Pull, Grandstand admission is $10

DuQuoin Public Library Food for Thought Book Club

DUQUOIN, IL (KFVS) - The book list for the Food for Thought Book Club at the DuQuoin Public Library is available.

The monthly book club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. They invite anyone to join at anytime by picking and choosing which month and authors work best for you. Refreshments mentioned in the book will be served.

The book list includes:

Video game teaches emergency preparedness, earthquake safety

PERRY COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A project commissioned by the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency was designed to teach children disaster preparedness and response strategies using a video game.

"The Day the Earth Shook" was developed by the Electronic Visualization Lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the Center for Public Safety and Justice- Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The game focuses on preparing for an earthquake like one that could occur along the New Madrid or Wabash Valley Seismic Zones in Southern Illinois.

Sixth annual ID's Lounge Poker Run benefits southern Ill. hospice

DUQUOIN, IL (KFVS) - The sixth annual poker run hosted by ID's Lounge to benefit the Hospice of Southern Illinois will be held on Saturday, May 21.

Registration will be at the lounge from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the entry fee is $20 for a single rider and $5 per extra rider.

Riders will stop at Nashville Southside, Chester Eagles, Evansville Barge, Marissa, Steeleville Eagles and then back to ID's Lounge.

Collector's Caravan coming to Pinckneyville

Collector's Caravan coming to Pinckneyville

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce will host the Collector's Caravan on Saturday, June 11. 

The Collector's Caravan is an antique and craft fair sponsored by the chamber. It will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
