Du Quoin State Fair tickets go on sale Mon.

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) - The Du Quoin State Fair Ticket office opens Monday, July 10 at 10 a.m.

Tickets will be on sale to see Dwight Yoakam, Mandisa Hundley, Thompson Square and the Eli Young Band, Warrant with Firehouse and Trixter, Merle Haggard, Default and Saving Abel, and USAC and ARCA car races.

  • Dwight Yoakam will be performing Saturday, August 25.
  • Mandisa Hundley will take the stage Tuesday, August 28.
  • Thompson Square and the Eli Young Band perform Wednesday, August 29.
  • Warrant, Firehouse and Trixter will hit the stage Thursday, August 30.
  • Merle Haggard will perform Friday, August 31.
  • Default and Saving Abel will be the entertainment for Saturday, September 1.

All of these concerts will start at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, September 2, the USAC cars will be racing.  Monday, September 3 the ARCA cars race.

Fundraiser for Southern Ill. Irish Festival scheduled for Sat.

(KFVS) - The annual Pub Night and Fish Fry, a fundraiser for the Southern Illinois Irish Festival, will be Saturday, May 5.

The fundraiser will be at the Carbondale Elks Club, 220 W. Jackson Street, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Food will include fish, chips, slaw, vegetarian options, soda bread and homemade desserts.

Organizers say music will be provided by The Dorians and Celtic harp player Christa Ashton. They say a silent auction will also take place and activities for children will be provided.

Tickets are $14 in advance for adults and $16 at the door, $11 for students and $5 for children 12 and under. Admission after 8 p.m. is $5. For advance tickets, you can click here to buy online or send a check to:

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Are you interested in becoming a Cub Scout leader?

The Kaskaskia District, Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is offering basic Cub Scout leader training on Saturday, March 3rd.

The training will take place at Murphysboro United Methodist Church at 1500 W. Pine Street. The training session begins at 9:00 a.m.

Local author to offer booksigning, workshops

Local author to offer booksigning, workshops

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A local author will hold a book signing at The Bookworm in Carbondale.

Edmond P. DeRousse of Sparta will be signing copies of his book, The Adventures of a Common Man on Saturday, January 28th beginning at 1:00 p.m. The novel is about Pete Russey, a man from Southern Illinois who goes on various adventures including an alien encounter in Roswell, NM.

DeRousse will also present a workshop at two different times and locations. He'll conduct the "Publish Your Manuscript" workshop at John A. Logan College in Carterville and at Pinckneyville's Rend Lake Campus. The workshop at John A. Logan College will take place on Wednesday, February 8th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The workshop in Pinckneyville will take place on Tuesday, March 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

12 days of winning through Illinois contest

SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Agriculture will hold a "12 Days of Christmas Contest."

It runs from December 14-25. To participate, you need to become a fan of the department on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. The agency will randomly pick a winner each day. The winner will get an Illinois product and an assortment of cooking supplies donated by the American Egg Board.

It's part of an effort to raise awareness about Illinois food products available to the public.

(KFVS) - A viewer sent us this picture of their pet Taco dressed as "Santa Paws."

Taco's lap might be too small, but we want to see pictures of your kids or pets sitting on Santa's lap. The pictures will be featured online and maybe on-air.
