Ill. trooper hit by pickup at fair grounds

An Illinois state trooper was hit by a pickup truck Saturday evening just before 8:30 p.m. at the entrance to the state fair grounds.

According to Trooper David Sneed, the 23-year-old driver from McLeansboro was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The trooper was taken to a Carbondale hospital for treatment and was later released.

The trooper is expected to make a full recovery, Sneed said.

Sneed says to please slow down and be aware what other vehicles are doing, as many are stopping and slowing letting people by near the fairground entrance.
